Ten auditors — four specialists and six general members — selected through open recruitment to participate in audits spanning finance, welfare, education, health and the environment
Seoul's Seongbuk-gu held a commissioning ceremony for its 8th-term civic auditors on Monday.
The 8th-term civic auditor panel comprises 10 members — four specialist auditors and six general auditors — selected through open recruitment. The specialist auditors were chosen from among residents with experience and expertise in finance and accounting, welfare and education, and health and the environment.
The newly appointed civic auditors will serve a two-year term running from Tuesday through Sept. 28, 2028.
Seongbuk-gu has operated the civic auditor system since 2012, incorporating residents' perspectives and expertise into the audit process in an effort to deliver more transparent and impartial administration.
The civic auditors will take part in comprehensive audits of district office departments and neighborhood community centers, reviewing overall administrative operations. They will also serve as a communication channel between residents and the administration by proposing improvements to address resident grievances and unreasonable policies.
"Please examine administrative affairs objectively and fairly, drawing on your individual expertise and experience, and offer substantive suggestions for improvement," Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said at the ceremony. "I hope the civic auditors will serve as a bridge of communication between residents and the administration." He added that the district would faithfully reflect the constructive opinions put forward by the auditors to build a more trusted Seongbuk-gu government.
