Busking, traditional music performances and hands-on activities fill the streets near Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Station — bring a receipt of 30,000 won or more from anywhere in Imun-dong to receive a 10,000 won cultural gift voucher
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul will host the Imun-dong Alley Festival on Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the commercial district near Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Station, along Imun-ro 120-gil. The event brings together local residents and merchants for a day of community celebration.
The festival is designed to inject new energy into Imun-dong's alley shopping district and encourage foot traffic and spending. Organizers are drawing on the neighborhood's strengths — a lively youth population centered on the university area and a wide range of everyday shops — to create an event that both residents and visitors can enjoy.
The day kicks off with interactive events including a local commerce quiz, followed by a lineup of performances featuring traditional Korean music, visual arts and busking. Game booths will be set up throughout the festival grounds, and hands-on activities such as keyring making will be available for all ages.
A receipt payback event aims to turn festival excitement into real spending in the neighborhood. Visitors who present a receipt showing a purchase of 30,000 won ($22) or more made anywhere in Imun-dong between Monday and Friday will receive a 10,000 won cultural gift voucher on the day of the festival. Each person may participate once.
Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said he hopes the festival will draw residents and visitors into every corner of Imun-dong's alleys and bring fresh vitality to the local commercial district.
