Moon Do-yeop sits third after opening round of Asian Games golf; Kim Ju-hyung seventh

Moon Do-yeop sits one stroke off the lead in a tie for third place after the opening round of men's golf at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Playing at Kasugai Country Club's East Course (par 70) in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on Wednesday, Moon carded a bogey-free round of four birdies for a 4-under-par 66.

He trails co-leaders Wang Wei-hsuan of Taiwan and Higa Kazuki of Japan, who each shot 5-under 65, by one stroke. Moon shares third place with Zheng Wenhe of China and Nakajima Keita of Japan.

Moon picked up one stroke on the front nine before turning up the heat on the back. He made birdies on the par-5 13th, then on the par-3 15th and par-4 16th in succession to move into contention.

Kim Ju-hyung, who traveled directly to Japan after competing in the Presidents Cup, also made a strong start, carding five birdies against two bogeys for a 3-under 67 and a share of seventh place. Kim Sung-hyun sits tied ninth after posting a 2-under 68, which included an eagle, three birdies and three bogeys.

Korea also made a promising start in the team event. Under a format that counts the two best scores among the three players competing each round, Moon's and Kim Ju-hyung's scores were combined for a 7-under 133. That leaves Korea tied for second with China, two strokes behind Japan's 9-under 131. The tournament runs over four days and 72 holes of stroke play.

The Korean men's team won the team gold medal at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, with Kim Si-woo, Lim Sung-jae, Jang Yu-bin and Jo Woo-young combining for the title.

The second round continues Thursday at the same venue.
