Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 6 begins 15th scheduled maintenance

Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 6, a pressurized water reactor with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts located in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province, has begun its 15th scheduled preventive maintenance.

According to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters, Unit 6 halted power generation Wednesday at 10 a.m. and entered a roughly 72-day maintenance period.

During the maintenance, Hanul Unit 6 will undergo equipment upgrades — including an expansion of circuit breaker capacity — along with inspections of major components.

"Hanul Unit 6 is expected to resume power generation in December, after completing all statutory inspections required under the Nuclear Safety Act, receiving regulatory confirmation of compliance, and obtaining an operation approval from the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission," a Hanul Nuclear Power Plant official said.
