Uljin-gun to hold 50th Seongnyu Cultural Festival from Friday to Sunday

Uljin-gun in North Gyeongsang Province will hold the 50th Seongnyu Cultural Festival from Friday to Sunday at the entrance to Seongnyu Cave in Geunnam-myeon and at Yeonho Culture Center and Yeonho Park in Uljin-eup, the county announced Wednesday.

On the opening day Friday, a ritual ceremony at the Seongnyu Cave entrance will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony on the Yeonho Park stage.

Traditional events will include the Wolsong large rope-pulling contest, the Simnyeong Bajigekun play, a tightrope-walking performance from Namchang-dong, Bongsan mask dance, and a traditional wedding ceremony demonstration.

Around Yeonho Park and Yeonho Culture Center, visitors can view fine art and photography exhibitions alongside a display from the 24th Uljin Bongpyeong-ri Silla Stele Calligraphy Competition. Hands-on programs will include a wildflower exhibition and planting activity, pottery wheel sessions, Gold Pine woodcraft, and a traditional tea ceremony.

The 8th Uljin National Classical Chinese Poetry Contest, a student writing and sketching competition, and a county residents' folk chess tournament will also run during the festival.

A Wangpicheon market and a food fair will operate at the venue, and a booth selling Uljin eco-friendly agricultural products will also be set up.

"The 50th Seongnyu Cultural Festival, a celebration of Uljin's culture, will be a place to look back on the past 50 years and a commitment to opening the next 50 years with energy," a county official said.
