Kim Jin-kyung, a Gangnam-gu Assembly member representing Sinsa-dong and Nonhyeon 1-dong, received the excellence award in the local lawmaker category at the 2026 Gender Equality Policy Awards ceremony held Wednesday at the National Assembly Library.
The award, jointly established by Women's News Co. and the National Network of Women Local Assembly Members, was created to recognize outstanding legislative work aligned with the spirit of the Framework Act on Gender Equality and to promote the spread of effective gender equality policy.
A two-term member of the Gangnam-gu Assembly, Kim has consistently drawn on a broad understanding of policy and hands-on fieldwork to pursue legislative activities aimed at protecting the rights of vulnerable groups — including support for sex crime victims, improvements to public facilities for crime prevention, and assistance for women seeking employment or starting businesses.
Particularly notable efforts include her sponsorship of ordinances on stalking crime prevention and victim support in Gangnam-gu, on digital sex crime prevention and victim support, and an amendment to the district's public restroom installation and management ordinance to help eradicate illegal filming. She also worked to secure facility improvement budgets aimed at creating a safer living environment free from sex crimes.
"I am deeply honored that my consistent efforts through legislative activity to establish systems for preventing sex crimes and protecting victims have been recognized in this meaningful way," Kim said. "Going forward, I will continue to listen carefully to voices from the community and do my utmost to stand by the vulnerable and protect their rights, so that everyone can enjoy a safe and respected daily life."
