10,000 Runners Take to Gangnam Streets — Road Closures Set for Oct. 5 Marathon

Gangnam-gu will enforce road closures along Bongeunsa-ro near the Samsung 1-dong Community Center on Monday morning for the 23rd Gangnam International Peace Marathon, which kicks off at 8 a.m.

With some 10,000 participants expected, the district plans to announce closure schedules by segment in advance, reroute bus lines and deploy on-site traffic management teams to minimize disruption to residents.

The first stretch to close will be the roughly 500-meter segment between the COEX intersection and the old Seoul Medical Center intersection, which serves as the event venue. Vehicle access will be restricted starting at midnight Monday to allow for venue setup and will reopen at 6 p.m. after facilities are dismantled.

Race-course sections will be closed in sequence. As participants run from the old Seoul Medical Center intersection toward Tancheon Parking Lot, the stretch from the former Dongho Gas Station (97-1 Samseong-dong) to the Gangnam Police Station intersection will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Bus routes 3417, Gangnam 01 and Gangnam 07, which pass near the venue, will be partially rerouted. The district will post updated route information inside buses and at stops, and install banners and traffic signs on major roads. Now in its 23rd year, the Gangnam International Peace Marathon is the district's flagship sports event, promoting community health and the spirit of peace and unity. The race is held across four categories: full marathon, half marathon, 10 kilometers and 5 kilometers.

"With 10,000 people running through the city center, we are focusing on participant safety and traffic management," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said. "We will work with relevant agencies to manage the race course and the area around the venue, and do our utmost to minimize inconvenience to residents from the road closures."
