'Achasan and Everyday Leisure,' an urban farming and forest experience event, will be held Oct. 9 at Achasan Eoulim Square
From children's beekeeping and traditional farming to forest tea ceremonies and family nature play
Gwangjin-gu will host "Achasan and Everyday Leisure," an event bringing together urban farming and forest activities, at Achasan Eoulim Square on Oct. 9.
The event is designed to let residents experience the natural surroundings of Achasan up close and take part in leisure activities centered on urban agriculture and forest life. Families with children of all ages are welcome to join the various programs on offer.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., opening with a toddler health exercise session and a bubble show before moving into a full lineup of urban farming and forest-themed activities.
The urban farming zone will feature flower basket and herb salt making, a children's beekeeping experience, and traditional farming activities such as rice threshing and sweet potato digging. A modern agriculture station where visitors can examine crops under a microscope and a companion plant program will also be available.
In the forest experience zone, visitors can make plaster air fresheners and enjoy a traditional tea ceremony in a woodland setting. A family nature play area for young children will offer activities parents and kids can enjoy together — decorating frames with natural materials, making fruit keyrings, and playing traditional games such as hopscotch and ddakji.
Residents who wish to participate can sign up at the activity booths on the day of the event. No parking will be available at the venue, so organizers encourage visitors to use public transportation. For more information, contact the Gwangjin-gu Office's Parks and Leisure Division.
"I hope this event gives residents a chance to connect with the nature of Achasan and find a moment of rest and energy amid their busy lives," Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said. "We will continue to run a variety of programs so that residents can enjoy nature close to home and lead healthy, fulfilling leisure lives."
