Community Chest of Korea appoints Jin Seok-beom as new secretary general
Welfare expert with broad experience in public and private sectors
A welfare expert with broad experience in social welfare practice and policy administration will take the helm of South Korea's leading fundraising organization.
The Community Chest of Korea said Thursday its board of directors unanimously approved the appointment of Jin Seok-beom, former president of the Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation, as its 10th secretary general.
Jin, 54, born in Seoul, previously served as president of the Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation, president of the Hwaseong Social Welfare Foundation, and senior administrative officer at the presidential secretariat's health and welfare office. He brings a background spanning social welfare theory, fieldwork and public administration.
Jin's three-year term begins Wednesday. As a standing ex officio director, he will oversee the organization's overall secretariat operations, including fundraising and grant distribution.
Meanwhile, the Community Chest of Korea posted a public recruitment notice for the secretary general position in July in accordance with relevant regulations. A candidate recommendation committee oversaw a first-round document screening and a second-round interview, after which two finalists were put before the board Thursday.
