Wins 90.37% of votes; term runs through January 2029
Kang Jin-mo, 58, has been elected the 4th president of the Korea Billiards Federation.
The Korea Billiards Federation (K-Billiards) said Thursday that Kang, candidate No. 2, won the online vote held for the 4th unified presidential election.
Kang received 122 of 135 ballots cast, securing 90.37 percent of the vote. Candidate No. 1, Jang Mun-ik, received 13 votes, or 9.63 percent. Of the 162 eligible electors, 135 participated, for a turnout of 83.33 percent.
Kang ran on the vision of "Billiards, Connected to the World." His campaign pledges included building a development pipeline from youth players through elite athletes, revitalizing the billiards industry by linking corporate sponsorships with content, pursuing an AI- and data-driven digital transformation, and attracting international competitions while strengthening the national team's competitiveness.
Speaking immediately after his victory, Kang said he had built his connection to billiards over 40 years of work in sports. "Although I was elected through a by-election, I will do my utmost to ensure billiards is run on a stable footing for the remainder of the term," he said.
Kang's term begins on the date the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee grants its approval and runs through the day before the regular general assembly in January 2029.
