Applications open until Oct. 21
Siheung is accepting applications for 12 honorary citizen reporters for the fourth cohort (2027–2028) of its municipal newsletter, Beautiful Siheung, through Oct. 21.
Honorary citizen reporters are volunteer contributors who cover local city affairs and neighborhood stories from a resident's perspective for publication in Beautiful Siheung. The newsletter is distributed at 10,000 copies per issue on a monthly basis, with the current cohort of 12 citizen reporters handling reporting and writing to bring residents a range of community voices.
The recruitment follows the expiration of the current cohort's appointment period. Any Siheung resident aged 19 or older — or anyone whose primary living area is Siheung — is eligible to apply. The city is looking for residents who can regularly identify story ideas related to Siheung and develop them into articles each month.
The city will conduct a document review and select the final 12 reporters by the end of October. Those selected will serve a two-year term from January 2027 through Dec. 31, 2028. Selected reporters will receive training in article writing after their appointment and will be paid a per-article fee when their work is published in the newsletter or other city media.
Interested residents can download the application form from the Siheung city website, then submit it by email along with one sample article of around 1,000 characters on a topic of their choice related to Siheung, plus any other required documents.
Han Hee-jae, the city's public relations officer, said stories of all sizes discovered through residents' eyes would enrich the newsletter. "We hope many people will take an interest and take part in this recruitment drive, so we can document Siheung today and carry the voices of its residents," Han said.
For more information, residents can check the announcement on the Siheung city website or contact the public relations planning team at the city's public relations office.
