About 330 million trips were recorded across China on Thursday, the first day of the National Day holiday.
According to Yonhap, China's Ministry of Transport said inter-regional travel totaled about 329.495 million person-trips that day. The figure represents a 1.9 percent decline from the first day of last year's National Day holiday.
Road travel accounted for the vast majority of trips at about 300.36 million, but fell 2.8% from the same period last year. Rail travel, by contrast, rose 9 percent year-on-year to about 25.204 million passengers. Sea travel climbed 7.2 percent to about 1.416 million, while air travel edged up 0.5 percent to about 2.515 million.
Chinese authorities had earlier projected that total inter-regional travel during the National Day holiday, which runs through Oct. 7, would reach about 2.13 billion person-trips.
