A man in his 50s has been arrested after striking a woman in her 20s on the back of the head with a rock in a late-night unprovoked attack.
The Yongin Dongbu Police Station said Monday it had arrested the suspect, identified only as A, on charges of aggravated assault and was investigating the case.
A is accused of following the victim, identified as B, along a street in Yeokbuk-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, and striking the back of her head with a rock at around 1:19 a.m. Monday.
The two had no prior acquaintance, police said.
B had been walking home after finishing a part-time shift when A allegedly followed her and attacked without warning. She sustained a bruise to the head and is receiving treatment.
Bystanders who heard B scream called police and subdued A before officers arrived and took him into custody at the scene.
A told investigators he could not remember the incident because he had been drunk, according to police.
Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to determine the full circumstances of the attack. Given the severity of the case, they plan to seek a detention warrant for A.
