North Gyeongsang Province has launched emergency quarantine measures after an additional foot-and-mouth disease case was confirmed at a Hanwoo cattle farm in Yecheon-gun.
According to provincial authorities Monday, the affected farm raises 98 head of Hanwoo cattle, and 10 animals have been confirmed infected.
The farm is located 2.3 kilometers from another Yecheon-gun cattle farm where FMD was first detected on Sept. 2.
In response, the province imposed movement restrictions and access controls on the farm. It is also conducting clinical inspections of the affected site and stepping up surveillance at 148 cloven-hoofed livestock farms within a 3-kilometer quarantine zone.
Authorities mobilized 55 large-scale disinfection and quarantine vehicles to farms and livestock transport vehicles in the affected county and neighboring areas, carrying out intensive disinfection and cleaning of farms and surrounding roads.
"We will do our utmost to prevent the spread of the virus through emergency quarantine measures at the affected farm and enhanced surveillance of cloven-hoofed livestock farms," said Park Chan-guk, director of the North Gyeongsang Province Agriculture, Livestock and Retail Bureau.
