Suspect claims killing was accidental after shoulder bump
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of killing a man in his 70s in a residential neighborhood in Seoul's Gangbuk-gu.
The Seoul Gangbuk Police Station said it arrested the suspect, identified only as A, on murder charges at around 1 a.m. Monday. A is accused of killing a man in his 70s, identified as B, at around 11 p.m. Saturday in a residential area in Beondong, Gangbuk-gu.
Police received a report that B could not be reached and began tracing his whereabouts, eventually finding his body at around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators identified A as the suspect after analyzing closed-circuit television footage from around the scene. A and the victim are believed to have had no prior acquaintance.
During police questioning, A claimed the killing was unintentional, saying it occurred after an argument that broke out when the two bumped shoulders on the street. Police plan to seek a detention warrant for A after completing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident.
