Uiseong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province held an interim briefing Friday on a research project titled "Establishing Key Infrastructure Implementation Strategies and Operating Working Groups for the New Airport" at the county office's video conference room.
The study, which launched in March, is set to be completed in December.
Key research areas include the efficient layout of cargo terminal and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facilities, strategies to boost air logistics and attract businesses, a specialized approach to the aviation maintenance sector, and the direction of new town development around the airport.
At the briefing, participants reviewed implementation strategies by sector based on research conducted to date and discussed a range of proposals to refine the overall strategy going forward.
Major topics included optimizing the layout and expansion of cargo terminal and MRO facilities, offering various incentives and deregulation measures to attract businesses, and developing a future-oriented, mobility-centered new town model linked to the airport.
"The Daegu-North Gyeongsang new airport is a critical opportunity to lay a new foundation for Uiseong's future growth," Uiseong-gun County Chief Choi Yu-cheol said. "We will prepare thoroughly so that it leads to a revitalized local economy through business attraction and job creation."
