The district has transformed aging roads near the shopping district into a 'design street,' completing the work in time for the Oct. 10 'Dulleo Bam Masil' night market festival.
Seoul's Dobong-gu said the streets near the Ssangmun Station Dulleo shopping district have been transformed into a distinctive "design street," timed to coincide with the "Dulleo Bam Masil" night market opening Saturday.
The Ssangmun Station Dulleo shopping district is one of Dobong-gu's signature alley commercial areas, known for evoking the warm, nostalgic atmosphere of the drama series "Reply 1988."
The nearby roads had long suffered from ground subsidence, potholes and cracks, making repairs an urgent safety priority.
The district secured special local allocation tax funds from the city government for regional issues and disaster safety management to address the problem.
Using those funds, the roads near the shopping district underwent extensive asphalt resurfacing in September, followed by additional work to remake them as a "design street."
The district office and the merchants' association collaborated on the design, aiming to make the area an appealing destination for both young visitors and families.
The renovation was completed in time for "Dulleo Bam Masil," a family-friendly night market festival set for the Ssangmun Station Dulleo shopping district area on Saturday.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a range of programs on the newly refurbished streets, including a carousel, a bubble show and a family late-night food project.
"We hope many families will come out to the Dulleo Bam Masil festival on the newly renovated streets, which the district and the merchants' association worked together to create, and enjoy a warm and festive autumn evening," Dobong-gu District Mayor Kim Dong-wook said.
