Mayor Shin: 'Learning is the power to discover new possibilities in life'
Guri will host the 20th Guri Lifelong Learning Festival at Guri Han River Citizens Park from Friday through Sunday, offering residents of all ages a chance to discover the joy of learning and take on new challenges.
This year's festival runs under the theme "Guri ON — Switch On Learning," reflecting the idea that lifelong learning is not confined to a particular age or place and can begin anytime, anywhere in daily life.
Lifelong learning institutions and study clubs will take part in the three-day event, presenting a range of hands-on activities, exhibitions and performances. Participatory programs designed for everyone from children to senior citizens will also be on offer throughout the festival.
The festival will also showcase the achievements of a disability lifelong education program jointly supported by Gyeonggi Province and Guri. The program highlights the community's efforts to ensure that learning opportunities are open to all, regardless of disability, and aims to share the value of inclusive lifelong learning with residents.
A ceremony Friday at 3:30 p.m. will include the 9th Guri Lifelong Learning Awards, recognizing learners, instructors and institutions that have actively practiced and contributed to the advancement of lifelong education.
"Lifelong learning must be open to everyone, and learning is the power to discover new possibilities in life," Guri Mayor Shin Dong-hwa said. "I hope this festival becomes a meaningful occasion for citizens to find the joy of learning in their everyday lives and share their experiences and wisdom with one another."
