A running race honoring Reckless — the Jeju horse that carried ammunition for US troops during the Korean War — will be held on Jeju.
Korea Racing Authority's Let's Run Park Jeju announced Tuesday that it will hold the "Reckless Hero Run" on the evening of Oct. 24 on its racing track as part of the 2026 Jeju Horse Festival.
Reckless served with the 1st Marine Division during the Korean War, hauling ammunition and artillery shells to the front lines. She is particularly known for making dozens of solo runs across the battlefield to deliver ammunition during fighting in the Yeoncheon area of Gyeonggi Province in 1953.
After the war, Reckless was taken to the United States, where the Marine Corps gave her a military rank and awarded her the Purple Heart, among other honors. Korea Racing Authority organized the event to honor her courage and service.
The race will take place on the sand track normally used for Jeju horse racing. Events include a 3.2-kilometer competitive run, a 400-meter family run, a costume run and a 200-meter weighted run held as an on-site event.
Registration is open until 5 p.m. on Oct. 22 through the website and mobile app of Runnable, a running platform. Finishers will receive a medal, a hat, a Reckless horse plush toy and a commemorative towel. Category winners will receive gift vouchers and pork gift sets.
