Hyundai Engineering announced Wednesday that it has secured a contract to build a new data center in Wonchang-dong, Incheon, following last week's award of an AI data center project in Gunsan.

The Wonchang-dong project, commissioned by Cheongna IDC PFV — a project financing vehicle established by Idotera One — calls for a 50 MW data center in Seohaegu, Incheon. The total project value is approximately 870 billion won ($648 million), and the facility will span four below-ground floors and 11 above-ground floors. Construction is set to begin in November, with completion targeted for the second half of 2029.

Hyundai Engineering will handle architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical systems, landscaping, and telecommunications work. KT Cloud, a co-contractor on the project, will share responsibility for mechanical, electrical and plumbing work alongside Hyundai Engineering.

The data center is expected to offer strong connectivity with existing Greater Seoul data center clusters, while its proximity to Incheon and Gimpo international airports is seen as a factor that could drive long-term value and growth.

A Hyundai Engineering official said the back-to-back data center wins demonstrate that the value-based management approach and business portfolio transformation strategy pursued by Chief Executive Joo Woo-jeong since taking office are translating into tangible results. The company secured the earlier contract last week for the Gunsan SGC AI data center project in Bieungdo-dong, Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, also valued at approximately 870 billion won.

In July, Hyundai Engineering unveiled a new corporate value framework, positioning itself as a key driver of the energy value chain. Building on that, the company has been working to move beyond its traditional engineering, procurement and construction model by cultivating future energy and advanced industrial construction as new growth pillars.

To sharpen its competitiveness in the data center sector, Hyundai Engineering plans to accelerate technical capability development through a dedicated unit. The company runs technical seminars and training programs for staff to deepen expertise and stay ahead of market shifts, while also focusing on building end-to-end execution capabilities covering design, construction and maintenance.

The company is also continuing to develop technologies and strategic partnerships to strengthen its core competitiveness in data center construction. Efforts include applying off-site construction methods tailored to data centers to shorten build times and improve quality, as well as advancing capabilities in power supply stability, high-efficiency cooling systems, fire and disaster response, and security infrastructure.

"We have been winning data center contracts in succession, backed by an unrivaled track record and differentiated competitiveness built up in high-tech construction at home and abroad, including advanced industrial buildings," a company official said. "We will continue to expand our data center business — a core piece of AI-era infrastructure — drawing on Hyundai Engineering's unique ability to connect space and energy."
