The Korea Display Industry Association on Wednesday welcomed the on-site regulation reform plan for the display industry announced Tuesday by the Regulatory Rationalization Committee.

The reform package includes exempting tempered glass — a key material for automotive displays — from import approval requirements, expanding direct power purchase agreement options for renewable energy, and establishing guidelines for the use of generative AI in national core technologies such as display manufacturing.

"With obstacles removed for Korean display companies that are on the verge of large-scale investment, we expect investment in new technologies and markets to proceed without disruption," the association said. "As Korean companies ramp up investment and production in automotive displays — the largest emerging market segment — the groundwork has been laid for a stable supply of key materials."

The association added that the measures are expected to boost productivity and price competitiveness through the acceleration of manufacturing AI, while also supporting the industry's efforts to achieve RE100 and carbon neutrality through access to clean energy.

The display industry plans to make full use of the new regulatory reforms to create fresh demand markets, maintain an overwhelming technological edge over rival nations, and further solidify the competitiveness of South Korea's display sector.
