Daegu city and North Gyeongsang Province announced Wednesday that they have appointed Jung Hae-yong, former deputy mayor for economic affairs of Daegu, as the new commissioner of the Daegu-North Gyeongsang Free Economic Zone Authority.
Jung, a native of Yeongcheon in North Gyeongsang Province, graduated from Gyeongju High School and Kyungpook National University with a degree in sociology. He previously served as a Daegu City Council member, head of the city's political coordination office, special political adviser and deputy mayor for economic affairs.
Daegu city said it expects Jung to accelerate investment attraction and development projects in the free economic zone, drawing on his deep understanding of the local economy, his experience in administration and political affairs, and his broad networks across central and regional business circles.
"I will listen directly to businesses on the ground, actively address the regulations and difficulties they face, and build a field-centered business support system — all to create a free economic zone where companies can thrive and serve as a forward base for South Korea's innovation-driven growth," Jung said.
