Jaguar unveils luxury 4-door GT Type 01 in New York, Korean debut set for second half of 2027

JLR Korea announced Thursday that Jaguar held the world premiere of the Type 01 — a luxury 4-door grand tourer the brand describes as its most technologically advanced and powerful model ever — in New York.

The car was first revealed through large-scale digital displays at Times Square, Dumbo and the Lower East Side, before making its physical debut at a private event at Storied in West Chelsea.

The Type 01 is the first production car to embody Jaguar's creative philosophy of "Exuberant Modernism," distinguished by dramatic proportions and clean body surfaces. Starting from a single line on a blank page, the car took shape through close collaboration between designers and engineers and was refined through wind tunnel testing.

Built on a dedicated battery-electric architecture, the Type 01 combines original engineering with a clear development vision to deliver distinctive proportions and captivating driving dynamics. The model has generated more than 360 patent applications, making it the most technologically advanced in Jaguar's history.

The Type 01 produces up to 1,030 horsepower and 139.2 kilogram-meters of torque, delivered with precision where needed. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.2 seconds and from 100 to 180 kilometers per hour in 4.0 seconds.

Equipped with a 118-kilowatt-hour battery and an 850-volt architecture, the Type 01 can complete up to 99.7 percent of all journeys without an intermediate charge, based on JLR's analysis of customer driving data. Its estimated range reaches up to 720 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. With 350-kilowatt DC fast charging, the car can add up to 321 kilometers of range in just 13 minutes.

Inside, the driver faces an interactive display featuring a single-glass 24-inch OLED screen that delivers exceptional clarity and allows intuitive control of Jaguar's new infotainment system.

A smartphone-style 7-inch display sits between the driver and front passenger, providing easy access to frequently used functions. The immersive audio system — the first in the automotive industry to feature a full-range panoramic soundbar spanning the entire width of the cabin — pairs with sensory audio seats to fill the interior with sound.

"The Type 01 is the quintessential Jaguar luxury grand tourer and the foundation for a new era of the brand," said Rawdon Glover, Jaguar managing director. "Jaguar must be something special that people want to own — a brand with cultural relevance. Just as it was in the era of the E-Type and XJS, we have made no compromises in design or engineering as we drive the reinvention of Jaguar for the 21st century."

At the event, Jaguar announced actor Florence Pugh as its first brand ambassador of the new era.

"This world premiere marks the most significant moment since the Jaguar name was born in 1935," a Jaguar official said. "It powerfully signals Jaguar's new era while marking the beginning of the brand's new journey with the Type 01."

Order books for the Type 01 will open in early 2027, with the car set to make its Korean debut in the second half of that year.

Meanwhile, JLR Korea recently revealed the interior design of the Range Rover GT, the fifth model in the Range Rover family. The Range Rover GT is the first fully electric model built on the new EMA platform, with further details expected before the end of the year.
