The North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly's education committee conducted on-site inspections of major educational facilities across the province Wednesday and Thursday, during the first regular session of the 366th assembly.
On the first day, committee members visited Pohang Haeoeum Middle School, a newly established school in Ocheon-eup, Pohang, built to meet rapidly shifting educational demands. Members examined the school's progress in building student-centered future education infrastructure and creating a safe, comfortable learning environment.
The committee then visited a cluster of North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education facilities in Pohang — the Science Institute, Mathematics Culture Center and Environmental Education Center — which serve as hubs for convergence education. Members urged the institutions to strengthen student-led inquiry and hands-on learning, where students explore principles through direct experience and experimentation.
In Gyeongju, the committee toured the Hwarang Education Center, closely reviewing the safety of training programs designed to instill community spirit and sound character through the Hwarang tradition. Members held in-depth discussions on how to develop the center as an experiential alternative education space where children can grow into well-rounded individuals.
The final stop was the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education's Invention and AI Education Institute, where members toured facilities offering hands-on experience with generative AI and emerging technologies in step with the era of AI and digital transformation.
Committee Chairman Jeong Han-seok said the assembly would provide meaningful policy support to ensure that the newly inspected facilities — including Pohang Haeoeum Middle School and experiential centers covering science, mathematics, environmental studies, AI and character education — serve as a solid foundation for nurturing the dreams of children across North Gyeongsang Province.
