Delegation travels to study advanced legislative systems and explore inter-council cooperation
Gangnam-gu Council Speaker Lee Jae-jin, along with council members Lee Jong-won (District Na) and Yeom Hui-ok, visited the New York City Council on Thursday, where they were welcomed by City Council Speaker Julie Menin and fellow council members. The delegation exchanged views on legislative issues and strengthened ties with a view to expanding exchanges between the two countries, the council announced Saturday.
At a meeting held at 12:30 p.m. at the New York City Council on Thursday, the Gangnam-gu delegation discussed local issues with their New York counterparts. City Council Member Linda Lee introduced the Gangnam-gu delegation during a plenary session, drawing on the globally recognized Korean song associated with Gangnam, and the two sides pledged reciprocal visits to promote cultural exchanges between their communities.
The delegation visited the New Jersey State Senate on Friday to deliver a letter of intent for friendly exchange and cooperation with the Gangnam-gu Council. They also plan to visit the Bergen County Council and the North Miami City Council in Florida to explore advanced legislative systems and pursue joint development initiatives.
In addition, the delegation plans to attend the Japan Festival and Dream Festival opening ceremonies to gain insight into how overseas festivals are planned and programmed, and to tour other cultural facilities in search of ways to revitalize leisure spaces.
"I hope this visit to the New York City Council, Bergen County Council, North Miami City Council and New Jersey State Senate will serve as an opportunity to foster friendly cooperation among local councils and lay the groundwork for shared development going forward," Speaker Lee said.
