A woman in her 40s has been arrested for killing her father after losing money she had invested on his behalf and fearing his reproach.
The Cheonan Dongnam Police Station in South Chungcheong Province announced Sunday that it had detained the woman, identified only as A, on charges of patricide.
A is accused of striking her father, identified as B, a man in his 60s, with a blunt object as he slept in his apartment in Cheonan around noon on Sept. 13, killing him.
During the investigation, A told police she had received hundreds of millions of won from her father several years ago and invested the money in stocks and other assets, only to suffer losses. She said her father blamed her for the failed investments every time they met, telling her "it's your fault," and that the stress drove her to commit the crime.
The killing went undiscovered for more than three weeks. After the crime, A stayed at an inn in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, but eventually disappeared, leaving her belongings behind. A missing persons report was filed, and officers searching for her visited B's home Thursday, where they found his body.
Police identified A as a suspect based on evidence including the absence of any gas usage in the home after her last visit, and arrested her on an emergency basis. A court issued a detention warrant Saturday.
