The 2026 Yongsan Family Sports Day drew about 100 residents on Oct. 9, featuring team athletics and family talent performances to foster community bonds.
Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae joined residents at the "2026 Yongsan Family Sports Day — Everyone's Sports Day in Our Neighborhood," held Friday at the outdoor soccer field of Yongsan Children's Garden.
Organized by the Yongsan-gu Family Center, the event brought together families and local residents through sports and cultural activities to strengthen family bonds and promote neighborly communication and unity. About 100 residents took part.
Participating families formed teams and cheered each other on through cooperative athletic activities. A family talent show added to the festive atmosphere, with participants showcasing a range of skills including singing, dancing and musical performances.
An awareness campaign and hands-on experience booths were also set up to deepen understanding of diverse family structures. Participants explored various programs together, exchanging perspectives on different family lifestyles and cultures.
The event carried added significance by being held at Yongsan Children's Garden, a space where children can play freely and families can relax together.
One resident who attended said, "My family and I come to the children's park to unwind every weekend, but today was especially meaningful — we got to spend a joyful time with our neighbors and make new memories together."
District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae said he hopes Yongsan Children's Garden will remain a cherished space where children grow up and families return to build happy memories for years to come. "We will continue to pay close attention to the policies and services that support families, so that everyone — from children to the elderly — can enjoy a happy everyday life," he said.
