Seoul's Yongsan-gu has confirmed "Yongsan: A Charming City Opening the Future" as the official slogan for its ninth directly elected district administration.
The new slogan reflects the district's commitment to translating urban transformation — including the development of the Yongsan International Business District — into a better everyday life and renewed vitality for residents. The vision is to build on Yongsan's growth potential and diverse appeal to create a city where residents thrive and visitors from around the world want to come.
"Opening the Future" signals a governance direction aimed at turning Yongsan's latent potential into tangible change and new possibilities. "Charming City" captures the district's aspiration to be both a great place to live and work and a destination that draws people from across the globe.
To give the slogan concrete form, the district has set five core governance goals: bold Yongsan development, field-centered smart safety, an economy full of vitality, cultural tourism that attracts the world, and warm welfare paired with solid education.
The plan calls for laying the groundwork for future growth through urban development while protecting residents' daily lives with on-the-ground safety management and injecting new energy into the local economy. The district will also work to enhance its cultural and tourism appeal and strengthen welfare and education services, channeling its full administrative capacity toward ensuring that the city's growth and residents' quality of life advance together.
The slogan's visual design also reflects Yongsan's identity and its forward-looking ambition. A rising diagonal line conveys the city's dynamism, while an open-form "O" represents the possibility of reaching out to the world.
Particularly notable is a pink dragon's-head motif placed above the "O" in "yong" — the first syllable of "Yongsan" — symbolizing the district's spirit of leaping toward the future. Pink represents the charm that draws people and the world closer, while deep navy blue stands for the trust and dignity befitting a global city. The interplay of the two colors expresses the blueprint for Yongsan as a charming, globally connected city moving boldly into the future.
