Photos of a family using a public viewing deck at a park on Yeongjongdo in Incheon as their own private campsite have drawn widespread criticism online.
The images, shared Monday on the social media platform Threads by a user identified as A, showed the family setting up a tent on the shared viewing deck at Seaside Park on Yeongjongdo and fishing from it. A criticized the family, saying the space had become their "front yard."
A went on to say that other visitors should not have to feel unwelcome around a family that had claimed a public space with a tent. "Setting up first doesn't make a public place your own property — and they showed that kind of thoughtless behavior in front of their children," A wrote.
"Why build your family memories at the expense of everyone else's comfort?" A added, asking other users what they thought of a family pitching a tent and fishing on a shared public deck.
Reactions from other users ranged from dismay to calls for action. "People who act like that in front of their kids have no sense of shame," one commenter wrote. Others said the family should be embarrassed, that authorities should be notified immediately to have them removed, and that a fine would be the only effective remedy.
