People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok criticized President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday over remarks in which Lee said "the most important thing is South Korea's national interest" and called for avoiding "subservient or sycophantic attitudes."
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Jang said, "A North Korean land mine blew off the foot of one of our soldiers, yet calling it an 'unexpected accident' — that is a 'subservient attitude.' The Coupang Inc hacker turned out to be Chinese, yet responding with 'so what?' — that is a 'sycophantic attitude.'"
He went on to ask, "Is buying eggs at four or five times the price to help a left-wing government in Brazil really 'protecting the national interest'?"
Jang also took aim at Lee's statement that "the Korea-US alliance is the pillar of diplomacy," saying, "He should first dismiss Chung Dong-young and Lee Jong-seok, who are undermining that pillar, and halt the premature transfer of wartime operational control."
On Lee's claim that negotiations over investment in the United States had produced "the outcome most aligned with the national interest," Jang said, "Shouldn't he at least resolve the Alaska LNG project before making such a claim?"
