Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended a celebrity lecture Tuesday morning at Majung Hall on the sixth floor of Mapo Central Library to mark Mental Health Day 2026, where he spoke about the importance of mental well-being.
Organized by the Mapo-gu Mental Health Welfare Center, the event was held in commemoration of World Mental Health Day on Saturday to encourage residents to reflect on and care for their own mental health.
The program opened with a band performance prepared by members and staff of the Mapo-gu Mental Health Welfare Center, followed by a lecture by Kim Nan-do, emeritus professor of consumer science at Seoul National University. Speaking on the theme "2027: Reading the Trends of the Mind," Kim addressed the causes of anxiety and depression in modern life and ways to overcome them.
Yoo greeted residents and officials from related organizations and called on the community to take an active interest in collective mental health care.
"Mental health is a crucial factor that determines quality of life and happiness, and it has now become a core challenge that communities must address together, beyond the level of the individual," Yoo said. "I hope this lecture offers residents a moment of comfort and renewed energy, and we will work hard to support mental health so that no one has to face a difficult moment alone."
