Members of the Gangnam-gu Council attended the opening ceremony of the newly opened Gaepo 3-dong Community Cultural Center on Monday afternoon, celebrating the occasion alongside local residents and touring the facility.
Construction broke ground in April 2024, and after roughly two and a half years of work, the center opened as a four-story, two-basement-level structure with a total floor area of 3,632.67 square meters.
The center houses a community administrative office on the first and second floors, a book cafe and cultural center on the third floor, and a multipurpose hall on the fourth floor. A 25-space underground parking lot was also provided for residents' convenience. The facility is set to operate as a one-stop community hub, combining the administrative functions of a neighborhood office with cultural and welfare services.
Deputy Speaker Kim Hyun-jung, Administrative Safety Committee Chair Lee In-sun, Economy and Urban Affairs Committee Chair Song Young-gwang, and council members Bok Jin-kyung, Lee Dong-ho, Lee Sang-ae, Park Dae-yong, Kim Yun-hee, Han Seong-sun, Hwang Tae-hyun, Lee Jong-won (District Ma constituency), Ko Eun-jin, Yun Su-hyeok, Eun Myeong-ju and No Mi-jin attended the event, receiving briefings on the center's construction process and facilities and inspecting the site.
The ceremony was held amid residents and guests including National Assembly member Park Su-min and Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi. It opened with a celebratory performance, followed by the presentation of commendation plaques to those who contributed to the project and a ribbon-cutting to mark the center's new beginning.
In her congratulatory remarks, Deputy Speaker Kim said she hoped the new community cultural center would "add convenience to residents' daily lives and establish itself as a new hub for culture, welfare and communication in Gaepo 3-dong." She added that the Gangnam-gu Council would "continue to provide the support needed for residents to enjoy culture and welfare in a better environment, and will keep a close eye on the facility to ensure it operates with substance."
