Nonghyup Central Federation Chairman Kang Ho-dong (from left), Ministry of Interior and Safety Minister Yun Ho-jung and Korea Fire Insurance Association Vice President Lee Seung-woo posed for a photo after signing an MOU for the National Fire Safety Project at the Nonghyup Central Federation headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on Tuesday afternoon.
The agreement among the Ministry of Interior and Safety, the Nonghyup Central Federation and the Korea Fire Insurance Association aims to expand the distribution of smoke detectors so residents of aging homes can evacuate quickly in the event of a fire. Under the MOU, the Nonghyup Central Federation will contribute 100 million won ($74,900) annually for three years — totaling 300 million won — and build a distribution and sales network through Hanaro Mart outlets nationwide to make smoke detectors more accessible. The Korea Fire Insurance Association will handle safety inspections and education, while the Ministry of Interior and Safety will oversee pilot projects and the phased expansion of smoke detector distribution.
