Minister of Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung delivered remarks Tuesday afternoon at a signing ceremony for the National Fire Safety Project MOU, held at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
The agreement, among the Ministry of Interior and Safety, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and the Korea Fire Insurance Association, aims to expand smoke detector distribution so residents of older housing can evacuate quickly in the event of a fire. Under the MOU, the federation will contribute 100 million won ($74,900) per year for three years — totaling 300 million won — and establish a distribution and sales network through Hanaro Mart outlets nationwide to make smoke detectors more accessible. The Korea Fire Insurance Association will handle safety inspections and education, while the ministry will lead a pilot project and oversee the phased expansion of smoke detector distribution.
