A man in his 20s from Uzbekistan has been detained after allegedly raping a female acquaintance at a villa in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and fleeing the scene, police said Tuesday.
The Ilsan Seobu Police Station said the man faces rape charges in connection with an incident that occurred around 10:40 p.m. Saturday at a villa in Ilsan's Seo-gu, where he allegedly assaulted a woman in her 20s of Philippine nationality.
The suspect had been drinking with the woman, who was known to him, when he allegedly committed the assault.
He fled immediately after the incident but was apprehended by police in Daejeon.
Police also booked two Philippine nationals — a man and a woman who had been drinking at the scene at the time of the assault — on charges of aiding and abetting rape.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the case.
