Actor Kim Yong-gun reacted with characteristic cool to news of his son Ha Jung-woo's upcoming wedding — admitting he first learned the date from a news report.
Kim shared his thoughts on Ha's marriage Wednesday, according to OSEN. When offered congratulations, he responded with a question of his own: "The wedding date is out? Even as his father, I don't really know." He added, "The kids are at an age where they handle things on their own." Kim also explained why he was in the dark: "When my son picks a date, he would normally tell me something like, 'We've set the date, please keep the time free' — but I haven't heard anything separately. It seems the news came out first."
Asked how he hoped the couple would live after marriage, Kim said, "Like everyone says, they should just live happily. They're getting married at a mature age, and marriage is a lifelong commitment — they need to make it work."
Ha Jung-woo and Cha Jung-won will hold a private wedding ceremony at a hotel in Seoul on Dec. 13. Ha's agency Workhouse Company and Cha's agency Saram Entertainment announced the news that day. The couple confirmed their relationship in February, with both sides saying at the time that "nothing has been decided regarding marriage" — but the wedding announcement came eight months later.
Kim had hinted at his son's marriage plans on television earlier. In March, on TV Chosun's Joseon's Romantics, he was asked whether Ha also liked children. "He does," Kim replied. "That's probably why talk of marriage has been slowly coming up."
