Daegu city held the 20th Daegu Volunteer Service Expo on Saturday at the 2.28 Freedom Square in Duryu Park to promote a culture of civic volunteerism.
The opening ceremony began at 10 a.m. on the event stage, attended by key guests and volunteers. The program opened with a video showcasing volunteer activities, followed by guest introductions, an opening address, congratulatory remarks and a performance.
More than 60 booths operated at the expo, including a volunteer registration booth, a themed pavilion introducing the value and social role of volunteerism, a corporate pavilion highlighting volunteer initiatives by companies engaged in social contribution activities, and a promotional and hands-on experience pavilion where visitors could learn about and try out major volunteer programs.
A volunteer cultural performance showcase, organized through talent donations by volunteers, featured a variety of acts including instrumental performances, singing and dance.
Side events included a children's activity zone for family visitors, a swap-and-share market to promote a culture of sharing and giving, and an International Year of Volunteers challenge in which participants completed volunteer mission activities across different fields throughout the venue.
A special exhibition marking the International Year of Volunteers highlighted outstanding volunteer cases from around the world alongside Daegu's major volunteer achievements, shining a spotlight on local volunteers who have dedicated themselves to disaster recovery — including wildfire relief — and community development.
Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho said he hoped the expo would "widely recognize the hard work of volunteers and serve as an opportunity for more citizens to join in volunteering."
