"New Trick," a new single by Blackpink member Rosé made in collaboration with Apple, has surpassed 50 million views on YouTube within a month of its release — reviving memories of her days as a Samsung Galaxy brand ambassador.
Released on Rosé's YouTube channel on Sept. 18, the music video had racked up 53.92 million views as of Sunday.
The release was more than a standard single launch. "New Trick" was conceived as part of Apple's flagship "Shot on iPhone" campaign, with Rosé filming the music video using the iPhone 18 Pro.
Crossing 50 million views in under a month, the song reaffirmed her strong brand power.
Earlier, Rosé posted a mirror selfie taken with the iPhone 18 Pro on her own social media accounts and on Apple's official account. She added the caption: "iPhone, new trick, watch this, watch this ahhhh!!!!"
Samsung Electronics fired back. The company's official Canadian account commented on Rosé's post: "If you needed a real phone you could have just asked us." The comment drew more than 180,000 likes.
Rosé had previously served as a Galaxy brand ambassador alongside her Blackpink bandmates — Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa. The group's collective switch to iPhones once their Samsung contracts expired had already made the rounds online under the headline "No mercy once the contract ends," causing considerable embarrassment for Samsung.
The pattern has become a recurring headache for Samsung: celebrities and influencers who partner with the company on marketing campaigns tend to return to iPhones as soon as their contracts run out.
Meanwhile, Apple launched the iPhone 18 series in South Korea on the same day "New Trick" dropped, and sales figures are drawing close attention.
