'Tekken Emperor' Mok hosts event with 12.5 million won purse
Top three finishers receive domestic shares; Gamst calls the action
The Kiwoom Securities Tekken Stars Cup, an esports tournament sponsored by Kiwoom Securities, concluded successfully with 97 professional and amateur players from South Korea and abroad.
The event was held Saturday at Freakup Studio in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with all 97 competitors taking part in roughly eight hours of competition, Kiwoom Securities said Monday.
Tekken is a one-on-one fighting game developed by Japanese game company Bandai Namco, in which players use character-specific moves and combos to defeat their opponents. The Stars Cup was organized by pro gamer Bae Jae-min, known by his handle "Mok," a Kiwoom DRX player who has competed on the world stage for more than 20 years and personally led the event.
The total purse was 12.5 million won ($9,310). Kiwoom Securities also awarded one share of a domestic stock to each of the top three finishers as an additional prize. The tournament was broadcast live on Mok's channel on the internet streaming platform Soop, with popular streamer Gamst providing commentary.
Kiwoom Securities signed a main sponsorship deal with esports organization DRX in March and joined as a naming partner, prompting the team to be renamed Kiwoom DRX. The Stars Cup was the first offline esports event Kiwoom Securities sponsored since the partnership was established.
"It was meaningful to be able to offer fans a special experience alongside Mok, who has demonstrated the strength of Korean Tekken," a Kiwoom Securities official said. "We will consistently expand the touchpoints through which we communicate and engage with esports fans going forward."
