Venue features bakery cafe, foot bath, exhibition and activity spaces

Dongducheon held an opening ceremony Monday for Soyo-sai, a tourism hub the city built to boost visitor activity around Soyosan, with full operations set to begin Saturday.

Soyo-sai was created by renovating a long-abandoned former livestock brand meat town in collaboration with SBS. The city developed the tourism and cultural space to offer visitors to Soyosan a range of attractions beyond hiking, giving them a place to rest and enjoy cultural experiences during extended stays.

The two-story facility features a bakery cafe and a foot bath on the first floor, where visitors can eat and relax, while the second floor houses an exhibition and activity space along with a family lounge, allowing guests of all ages to spend time at their leisure.

From Saturday through Dec. 31, the second-floor exhibition space will host a photography exhibition titled "Sai-reul (Geotda) Jeon" — documenting how the vacant building was transformed into a new space through its encounter with the natural surroundings of Soyosan, and how the space has changed over time.

The foot bath and a wappen name-tag crafting program will also be available, both for a fee. The foot bath requires advance online reservations, while the name-tag workshop accepts walk-in participants on the spot.

Visitors can soak their feet to recover from hiking and sightseeing, and create a personalized name tag using distinctive wappen patches.

"Soyo-sai is a space designed for residents and tourists visiting Soyosan to rest and enjoy culture and hands-on experiences," Dongducheon Mayor Park Hyeong-deok said. "We will continue to enhance the appeal of the Soyosan area through diverse tourism content and build Dongducheon into a destination city people want to return to."
