Q3 operating profit reaches 640.1 billion won on full-capacity operations and Rockville acquisition
Cumulative orders surpass $22 billion; PolyPeptide Group acquisition advances portfolio expansion
Annual sales outlook raised to 5.47 trillion won; company maintains 40%-plus profit margins
Samsung Biologics surpassed 4 trillion won ($3.01 billion) in cumulative sales through the first three quarters of this year, extending a record earnings streak.
Buoyed by full-capacity factory operations and growing revenue contributions from overseas facilities, the company raised its annual sales growth guidance to the upper end of its previous range — a flat 20 percent.
Samsung Biologics said Wednesday it recorded preliminary consolidated sales of 1.49 trillion won and operating profit of 640.1 billion won in the third quarter.
Sales rose 232.8 billion won, or 18.5 percent, from the same period a year earlier, while operating profit increased 6.6 billion won, or 1.0 percent. Compared with the previous quarter, sales grew 12.8 percent and operating profit climbed 9.1 percent.
The results reflected sustained full-capacity operations at Plants 1 through 4, a ramp-up in utilization at Plant 5, and the full recognition of revenue from the Rockville, Maryland production facility acquired in March.
The third-quarter operating profit margin came in at 43.0 percent, maintaining what the company described as the highest profitability in the global contract development and manufacturing, or CDMO, industry. Concerns had been raised about margin pressure from production disruptions caused by a labor dispute in the first half of the year, as well as early-stage costs tied to Plant 5 and overseas facilities, but Samsung Biologics held firmly to its above-40-percent margin.
Cumulative consolidated sales for the first three quarters reached 4.07 trillion won, up 24.4 percent from 3.27 trillion won in the same period last year — crossing the 4 trillion won threshold in just three quarters. Cumulative operating profit also rose 17.3 percent year-on-year to 1.81 trillion won, from 1.54 trillion won.
On the strength of those results, Samsung Biologics raised its full-year sales growth guidance from a range of 15 to 20 percent — implying 5.32 trillion won — to a firm 20 percent, or 5.47 trillion won. The revision reflects confidence in steady operations at Plants 1 through 4, the recognition of Plant 5 certification-batch revenue in the second half, and the stabilization of commercial production at the Rockville facility.
The company's financial position remained solid. As of the end of the third quarter, total assets stood at 12.67 trillion won, equity at 8.69 trillion won and liabilities at 3.98 trillion won. The debt-to-equity ratio was 45.8 percent and the borrowings ratio 9.2 percent.
Order momentum and global expansion also continued on track. Cumulative orders since the company's founding have reached $22 billion, spanning 117 CMO contracts and 184 contract development deals.
Samsung Biologics' tender offer for PolyPeptide Group, a global peptide CDMO, secured an 87.88 percent stake — well above the minimum threshold of 66.7 percent — and the acquisition is now proceeding through regulatory approval.
In August, the company opened a European sales office in the Netherlands, completing a global network linking the United States, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Samsung Biologics also received an A rating in MSCI's 2026 ESG assessment, one notch above its previous year's score.
