Gangseo-gu distributes 1 ton of kimchi to 500 vulnerable households
Gangseo-gu District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon rolled up his sleeves Wednesday to make kkakdugi — radish kimchi — at a kimchi-making charity event held at the Gangseo-gu Volunteer Center.
The district organized the event to bring a measure of warmth to vulnerable residents as temperatures drop ahead of winter.
About 30 people took part, including Jin and volunteer camp activists from 20 neighborhoods across the district, working through every step of the process — trimming ingredients, mixing seasoning and packing the finished kimchi.
The volunteers produced 500 boxes of kimchi, each weighing 2 kilograms, for a total of 1 ton. The kimchi will be delivered to 500 vulnerable households in the district, including basic livelihood security recipients and elderly people living alone.
"I hope the small effort we put in together with the volunteers brings warm comfort to our neighbors in need," Jin said. "We will take careful steps to ensure that vulnerable residents can get through a warm winter."
