Jungnang-gu has opened a residents-priority parking lot on the site earmarked for the new Myeongmok 2-dong community complex, holding an opening ceremony Tuesday.
The project was launched to put the land — secured for the future community complex — to use before construction begins. The Myeongmok 2-dong area, densely packed with single-family and multi-unit homes, has long suffered from a shortage of parking spaces, causing persistent inconvenience for residents.
The district created 40 parking spaces on a roughly 1,045-square-meter site. The lot will serve residents of the surrounding neighborhood and remain in operation until ground-breaking on the community complex.
"We converted land that would otherwise sit idle before the new building goes up into a parking facility that residents can actually use," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will continue to look at ways to make better use of public land and address the everyday inconveniences that affect residents' lives."
