S-OIL announced Thursday that it has completed the deployment of S-imoms, its AI-based integrated manufacturing operations management system, at the Shaheen project.

S-imoms — short for S-OIL Integrated Manufacturing Operations Management System — is a platform that consolidates systems and data spanning production, facilities, maintenance, inspection and safety into a single unified platform.

Through the latest Phase 2 upgrade, S-OIL strengthened data integration by linking mMDM, a manufacturing master data management system, and LRIS, a facility lifecycle reliability and integrity management solution. The enhancements allow the company to analyze information dispersed across individual systems in an integrated manner, enabling faster assessment of overall factory operations.

Safety management capabilities were also expanded. Eight additional modules — covering change management, incident management and process hazard analysis, among others — were added to PSORMS, the process safety and operational risk management solution, on top of the existing four modules centered on digital work permits. The additions allow the company to manage risk factors across worksites and process operations more systematically.

Notably, the JSA (job safety analysis) module incorporates generative AI to identify potential hazards for each task, drawing on an accumulated safety database of approximately 2,800 standard work risk assessments, past incident cases, and injury and fatality risk factors.

Phase 3, covering the expansion to the Shaheen factory, has also been completed. S-OIL plans to apply S-imoms to the Shaheen factory ahead of its commercial launch, leveraging digital manufacturing operations experience built up at existing facilities to support stable operations and efficient maintenance at the new plant. The Shaheen project is a 9.26 trillion won ($6.98 billion) development S-OIL is building within the Onsan National Industrial Complex in Ulsan.

"This upgrade of S-imoms and its expansion to the Shaheen factory have strengthened our ability to integrate and utilize production, facility and safety data," said Shim Hwan-cheung, S-OIL's head of factory innovation and coordination. "We will continue to actively leverage data and AI to enhance safety and operational efficiency on the ground, and to build an intelligent workplace where our employees can work more safely and productively."
