Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended the "2026 Mapo-gu Tong Chief Job Training" held Thursday afternoon at the main auditorium of the Mapo-gu District Office.
The event was organized to strengthen the professional capabilities of tong chiefs — neighborhood-level community liaisons who monitor local issues and serve as a bridge between residents and the district administration — with a focus on building the foundational knowledge and sense of responsibility expected of community leaders.
The program proceeded in order: an opening ceremony, remarks by the district mayor, a special lecture and job training for tong chiefs.
The special lecture was delivered by Park Chang-yeol, former director of Mapo-gu's administrative management bureau. Drawing on his extensive career in public service, Park discussed the mindset and communication skills required of tong chiefs, using real-world examples in an accessible and engaging manner.
The district office said it expects the training to deepen tong chiefs' understanding of their duties and help them communicate more effectively with residents.
Before the training, District Mayor Yoo said, "Tong chiefs who know their neighborhoods well are our partners in Mapo," adding, "I ask for your active cooperation in paying close attention to even the smallest inconveniences residents face, and Mapo-gu will spare no effort to ensure that tong chiefs can carry out their work with pride."
