Yeongdeungpo-gu will host "Hamseong Sori," a lifelong learning festival, at Dangsan Neighborhood Park on Oct. 31, starting at 1 p.m.
The festival's name is a condensed form of the Korean phrase meaning "our story of growing and communicating together." It brings together residents who have taken part in lifelong learning programs throughout the year to share their achievements and the joy of learning. This year's event is organized around three themes: "We learned," "We are learning," and "We want to learn."
The "We learned" zone gives residents a space to share what they have accomplished through lifelong learning. Alongside a broad exhibition of works from various programs, the zone will feature a poetry-and-painting exhibition drawn from adult literacy education, reflecting the lives and learning journeys of senior residents. A total of 177 poems and paintings will be displayed among the trees of the park, and after viewing the exhibition, visitors can step onto a small stage and read aloud the poem that moved them most.
The "We are learning" zone is a performance stage where lifelong learning club members show off the skills they have honed over the year. Ten groups will perform in succession — from instrumental sets featuring ocarina, guitar, saxophone and ukulele to energetic line dancing and graceful Korean traditional dance. Promotional booths for adult literacy education institutions in the area will also be on hand, along with hands-on booths offering silver gymnastics, hangul calligraphy and landscape watercolor painting.
The "We want to learn" zone is a classroom space open to visitors who collect three stamps by exploring the "We learned" and "We are learning" zones. Participants may choose one class from five options offered through the YDP Future Lifelong Learning Center: leaf frottage, cosmos folk painting, stencil art, miniature leather bag making and pressed-flower hand mirror making.
For more information, residents can check the district office's official website under the "Our District News" board or call the YDP Future Lifelong Learning Center directly.
A Yeongdeungpo-gu official said the district hopes the festival will be "a time for residents to share what they have learned and grow together," adding that the district will continue to expand the foundation of lifelong learning "so that everyone can feel and share the joy of learning in their daily lives."
