Seven birdies, three bogeys for 4-under 67; five strokes off the lead
Noh Seung-yul opened the Butterfield Bermuda Championship — a PGA Tour event with a $6 million purse — in a tie for 30th place Friday.
Playing at Port Royal Golf Course (par 71) in Southampton, Bermuda, Noh carded seven birdies and three bogeys for a 4-under-par 67 in the first round. He sits five strokes behind solo leader Chandler Blanchet of the United States, who fired a 9-under 62.
Noh entered the week ranked 189th in the FedEx Cup standings, looking to secure his PGA Tour card for next year through the fall series. His projected ranking after the opening round rose five spots to 184th.
To lock up a full card for the 2027 season, he must climb inside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings by the end of the fall series, meaning he needs to keep improving his position over the remaining rounds.
Noh was 3 under through 15 holes before finding a greenside bunker off the tee at the par-3 16th for a bogey. He recovered with back-to-back birdies at the par-5 17th and par-4 18th to finish at 4 under.
Solo leader Blanchet posted two eagles, six birdies and one bogey for his 9-under 62. Corey Conners and Ben Silverman, both of Canada, were among a group one stroke back at 8-under 63, sharing second place.
The Bermuda Championship is part of the PGA Tour's fall series, where players compete to secure their tour cards for the following season. None of the 120 players in the field ranked inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings.
