The district signed an MOU with the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day organizing committee on Friday at Seongbuk-gu District Office, establishing a cooperation framework to leverage local facilities and administrative resources and improve convenience for participants.
Seoul's Seongbuk-gu has joined forces with the organizing committee of the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day (WYD) to help ensure the event's successful staging.
The district signed a memorandum of understanding with the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day Organizing Committee on Friday at Seongbuk-gu District Office, formalizing cooperation ahead of the international Catholic gathering scheduled for Seoul in 2027.
The agreement aims to build a close cooperation framework among Seongbuk-gu, the organizing committee and parishes within the district to support preparations and operations for the event. It places particular emphasis on establishing a local support foundation so that young visitors from around the world can stay safely and comfortably in the area.
The signing ceremony was attended by Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro and about 10 representatives from both sides, including Father Joseph Cho Hae-bung, head of the Fourth Seongbuk District of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, who attended on behalf of Organizing Committee Chairman Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taek.
Under the agreement, Seongbuk-gu will support the event by making use of public facilities, infrastructure and administrative resources within the district. The organizing committee will build a coordination framework with the Fourth Seongbuk District of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul and work to promote harmony with local residents and improve convenience for event participants.
Seongbuk-gu also plans to maintain ongoing communication with relevant agencies throughout the preparation process to identify and address specific support needs.
Through these efforts, the district aims to minimize inconvenience for visitors during the event and foster a harmonious integration of the local community and the international gathering.
"The 2027 Seoul World Youth Day is a meaningful international event where young people from around the world come together to share the values of peace and harmony," District Mayor Lee said. "We will do our utmost, working closely with the organizing committee, parishes and other relevant agencies, to ensure that young people from across the globe can create cherished memories here in Seongbuk-gu."
