Mona Yongpyong, the ski resort at the foot of Balwangsan in Pyeongchang, has launched its first snowmaking operation of the season on the Red Slope.
The resort said Sunday it plans to continue snowmaking and open the ski slopes by late November.
As snow guns roared to life on the Red Slope, a blanket of white spread across terrain still tinged with autumn colors, signaling the start of winter and building anticipation for the coming ski season.
It was a clear sign that the thrill of carving down slopes on skis and snowboards — and the joy of winter sports in the crisp cold air — is drawing near once again.
Mona Yongpyong said it will continue snowmaking operations while monitoring weather conditions, including temperature and humidity, as it works to prepare the slopes.
"With the first snowmaking underway, we have begun preparations to welcome skiers and snowboarders who have been eagerly awaiting the winter season," a resort official said. "We will do our utmost to ensure visitors can enjoy winter sports safely and comfortably."
