The shark known as Bukangi has yet to leave the waters near Busan port. Although it has exited the artificial waterway at North Port's waterfront park, the animal was again spotted swimming in apparent good health near the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal.
According to the National Institute of Fisheries Science and Yonhap, monitoring conducted Sunday confirmed that Bukangi was swimming in the same area near the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal where it had been observed Saturday.
The spot where Bukangi was seen Saturday is about 2 kilometers from the North Port waterfront park, where the shark had last been staying.
The location is outside the artificial waterway but still within the port zone, not yet open sea. Public access to the area is restricted.
Bukangi left the artificial waterway Friday, after spending more than a month there, following the completion of efforts to guide it toward open water.
Experts believe the shark, which had been living in the narrow waterway at a depth of about 3 meters, is now expanding its range and adapting to a new environment.
The National Institute of Fisheries Science believes Bukangi moved to deeper water before making its way along the port walls.
Sunday's observation showed the shark swimming normally, with no visible external injuries.
"Bukangi was observed swimming in the same location as yesterday and has been confirmed to be in good health," an institute official said.
